- Animal Collective, Fall Be Kind EP. Exploring their weirder tendencies. The first two tracks are as good as anything on Merriweather Post Pavilion.
- Lou Reed, Transformer. Impetuous and cocky. "Hangin' Round" is the best song Bowie never wrote.
- Judy Garland, Judy at Carnegie Hall. So gay of me, I know.
- R.E.M., Fables of the Reconstruction. Underappreciated, yet lovely. R.E.M.'s Southern Gothic record. I'm rediscovering its incredible second half.
- Nirvana, Live at Reading. I've said all I need about this album already.
- Spoon, Kill the Moonlight. I think this might be my favorite Spoon album. The perfect mixture of accessibility and obtuseness.
