Nelly Furtado successfully pulled off the transition from folkpop singer to rump-shaking dance diva (unlike some of her contemporaries), but it was a jarring shift nonetheless. (Was she always this sleazy?)"Maneater" is a prime club single. The verse is basically tension ("Everybody look at me, me!") designed to make the release of the chorus all the more satisfying. That's the point when you throw your hands up in the air and shimmy, shimmy, shimmy.
